Pakistan register a historic win by 36 runs over Sri Lanka to mark the return of international cricket to their country after 8 long years, giving the Pakistani fans something to cheer about after a long wait. The win was helped by the individual brilliance of Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Amir, which helped the hosts to complete a 3-0 whitewash in the T20 series against the opposition.
Batting first, Pakistan got of to a steady start with Umar Amin and Fakhar Zaman batting well at the top of the order. Babar Azam kept the scoreboard ticking with Umar Amin after Fakhar’s dismissal, setting up a solid platform for the onslaught at the back end of the innings. It was Shoaib Malik who added to the fireworks at the end with a blistering 51 of just 24 balls, smashing 9 fours and 2 sixes, helping Pakistan register a massive 180/3 in their 20 overs.
The batting display from Sri Lanka was once again dismal at the top of the order, losing their top 3 just for a paltry 21 runs. The recovery was short lived as the Pakistani bowlers kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and the visitors could only manage 144/9 from their 20 overs, giving the hosts a 36 run victory and a 3-0 whitewash for a 2nd time in the tour. The top scorer for Sri Lanka was Dasun Shanaka, who announced his arrival to the side scoring 54 of 36 balls before losing his wicket to Fahim Ashraf. Mohammad Amir impressed with the ball once again picking up 4/13 in his 4 overs, with good support from Aahraf and Hasan Ali at the other end.
